Legacy
LEGACY: Think about it. Decide it. Create it. Live it.
Been to quite a few funerals in the past year. You know it’s a lot when you have to start picking which ones you can attend. So many people are grieving. You all are in my prayers.
It’s on my mind early this morning. What will be my legacy? What kind of life will I have lived? What will they say about me when I am gone?
I could try to answer these questions, but I won’t take the time to do that here today.
What I will say is this: At every funeral I’ve ever attended, no one talked about how much money a person made or what they had in the bank. No one spoke of the house they lived in or the car they drove. They don’t mention their educational degrees or how many promotions they received in their careers.
What they do talk about is how they treated people. They talk about how the person made them feel. They talk about the quality time they spent together and the memories they made. They talk about the selfless sacrifices the person made to improve the lives of the people around them. They talk about the times they laughed together and the times they cried together. They talk about commitment, loyalty, and LOVE.
We spend so much time in our lives pursuing things. I want to encourage you all today, as I have been encouraged, to pursue most the things that really matter in life. Pursue them now. We never know when our book is closing. We never know when we’re writing the final chapters of our legacy.
Ecclesiastes 7 says, “It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.”
God is so wise in His instruction. He truly knows the ways that lead us to be our best and live the best life we can while we are here.
How will you be remembered? When the story of your life is read, what will it say? What will be your legacy? Think about it. Decide it. Create it. Live it.
